Welcome to an alien and strange land, adventurer. MetaZoo is a new TCG that has come from the brilliant mind of Michael Waddell and his creative team. This TCG not only puts you in control of known and unknown cryptids of our world, but also uses a game changing mechanic using your real life environment to effect the game.
You and your opponent control a variety of cryptid creatures (known as Beasties), spells, artifacts, and potions. Your goal is to reduce your opponents LP (Life Points) from 1000 to 0. Choose a tribe colour, denoting a specific environment (Aura). Depending on your real life environment, this could cause your cards to become stronger.
Each card has specific events or abilities that will become even stronger in addition to the Aura. These events range from what Altitude you are at the air to if the Stars are out. These additional power ups are known as the 4th Wall Mechanics.
The list of different Auras include:
- Dark: Dark cards are the most common type of Beastie card. These cards gain a boost when you play them at Night.
- Light: Light cards are the best counters to Dark cards. These cards gain a boost when you play them during the Day.
- Flame: Flame cards are often cheap and powerful spell cards. These cards gain a boost when you play them near a fire source (fireplace, campfire, etc).
- Lightning: Lightning cards that disrupt Beasties and spells, whether through paralysis or electronic failure. These cards gain a boost when you play them during storms.
- Water: Water cards allow you to clone cards and make your 4th Wall Mechanics even stronger. These cards gain a boost when you play them near bodies of water or rain.
- Earth: Earth cards are very powerful tanks that can wreck your opponents board. These cards gain a boost when you play them outdoors near dirt or sand.
- Forest: Forest cards are focused on growth and powering up your Beasties. These cards gain a boost when you play them near parks, near forests, etc.
- Frost: Frost cards cause Beasties to become less effective or slow down entirely. These cards gain a boost when you play them during cold and/or snowy days (a good deck to run during winter).
- Spirit: Spirit cards are often strong counters to Dark cards, focusing on fear and terror. These cards gain a boost when you play the game at Night.
- Cosmic: Being too strange and alien for this world, these cards do not gain a boost from any kind of environment. They lack any immunities, powers, or vulnerabilites from other Auras. Instead, they are able to avoid 4th Wall Mechanics entirely.
